Born in 2000 in Xi’an, Shaanx Province, China, Kaiwen Zhao began studying piano at the age of four. He has studied under Professor Zhang Jin at the middle school of China Central Conservatory of Music since 2013. At the age of 14, Kaiwen has won over ten national and international awards. His accolades include first prizes at the 2005 National Youth Talent Competition, the fourteenth session of the 2012 Xinghai Cup Piano Competition and the 2013 Pearl River Kayserburg Piano Competition. Last year, at the eighth Tchaikovsky Musician Competition for Youth held in Moscow, Kaiwen earned second prize in the piano section. He was selected to take part in the 2010 and 2011 Lang Lang New Year’s concerts and performed the music with Lang Lang on stage in Wuhan, China. In November 2014, Kaiwen held a solo concert in Shenzhen and played in the second session of the Shenzhen Arts Festival closing ceremony concert.
