About Emma:
Emma began studying piano at age four with Kevin Thompson. She made her orchestral debut at age ten as a winner of the Concerto Stars Competition. Most recently, Emma received first prize at the Canadian Music Competition in Montreal (2018), was winner of Muzewest Concert’s first scholarship and private solo recital (2018), was winner for solo and concerto performances in the senior division of the Kiwanis Fraser Valley International Music Festival (2018, 2019), was runner-up in the BC Steinway Competition with the opportunity to perform in New York City (2018) and most recently, was the recipient of the National Gold Medal from the RCM for highest mark in North America for the Associate Performer’s Diploma (2018).

As a winner of the Senior Division of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, Emma performed with VSO to a standing ovation. She was invited to perform with them again in 2018-19. CBC included Emma in its list of “30 Hot Canadian Classical Musicians Under 30, 2017 edition.”

Emma participated in masterclasses with pianists such as Louis Lortie, Emanuel Ax, Angela Chen, Angela Hewitt, Ilana Vered, Max Levinson, Michal Tal, Boris Slutsky, Natalia Trull, Pavlina Dokovska, and Meng Chieh Liu.

When Emma is not playing the piano, she enjoys sports, baking, crafts, and service-related activities. She has organized and participated, as a guest artist, in UNICEF and ALS fundraising events and feels very strongly about making our world a better place. Her school awarded her the Citizenship Award (2018), recognizing these contributions.
