Josephine Chan, 15, is a sophomore at Stanford Online High School. She is studying piano performance with Elizabeth Schumann. She is also a scholarship student in the Pre-College Division at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
Josephine just finished taping for NPR’s From the Top show #367 and will be released on April 22nd. She has been a prizewinner of both national and international piano competitions including the 2018 Golden State Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, 2015 Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, 2015 Pacific Music Society Competition, 2015 Enkor International Piano Competition and 2012 San Francisco Chopin Foundation Competition. She was a finalist in the 2016 Mondavi Center Young Artists Competition, and was invited by audition to perform in the 2011, 2013 and 2018 Junior Bach Festival.
Josephine has given solo and concerto performances on both coasts of the United States and in Perugia Italy. Her most recent performances include a concerto recital with the Golden State Youth Orchestra as part of their Lunar New Year Celebration Concert on February 9th in Flint Center.
Josephine’s previous performances include San Francisco Conservatory of Music Classical Kick-off Concert, the CSM Concerts in St. Mary’s Cathedral in 2018, a concerto performance with the Brunensis Virtuosi Orchestra in Perugia Italy in 2017, a solo recital at the Lichenstein Center in Pittsfield MA in 2017, Concerts at the Presidio in Presidio Main Post Chapel in 2016, and Ojai Music Festival honoring Pierre Boulez at both Libbey Bowl in Ojai and Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley in 2015.
Josephine is an active chamber musician. She performs regularly in a trio as part of the SFCM chamber music program. Her trio placed 1st in the 2017 American Prize Chamber Performance, 2015 Holy Name Young Artists Chamber Competition and also received 2nd Prize in the Enkor international Chamber Competition in 2015.
Josephine has attended the 2017 Tanglewood Young Artists Program, 2017 Perugia Music Fest, 2017 University of Utah Chamber Workshop, and the 2016 Southeastern Piano Festival. She has performed in numerous master classes for both solo and chamber with many artists, most recently with Garrick Ohlsson, Nelita True, Zoltan Fejevari, Marina Lomazov, Ilana Vered, Roberto Plano, Chi Wu, Boaz Sharon, Melinda Lee-Masur, Bonnie Hampton and the Lee Trio.
